This beautiful, poignant portrait of the Mlabri people of Thailand is the result of over thirty years of research by Joseph Trier and his wife, Birgit. This small tribe is being forced from their traditional life by the destruction of the forest in which they live and the encroachment of farming and industry. The Triers recorded the life style of the Mlabri and made physical anthropological studies. But the majority of the work and the greatest contribution to the project are Joseph Trier's determined efforts to learn the language, religion and stories of the Mlabri before they vanish forever. He analyzes the grammar and pronunciation of Mlabri and reproduces many of their traditional prayers in word for word translations. Many photographs of Mlabri people, all of whom are mentioned by name, add to the text, making this a respectful presentation of them and their world.
