State Crimes Against Democracy—Political Forensics in Public Affairs

Notions that democracy is imperilled do not elicit much gainsaying these days. Diminished civil liberties chill dissent, from town hall meetings to full throated Occupy protests. Massive downsizing of state commitments to social wellbeing usher draconian austerity across continents, not to mention the "inside jobs" of banking scandals keyed to global financial collapse. World problems like population growth, species extinction and global warming now defy the very best our current institutions can muster on a competent day. Meanwhile, in synch with Henry David Thoreau, "There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is hacking at the root." This volume is intended for the curious and judicious hackers at evil wishing to know how global institutions have been rigged to divest democracy of its demos, and what current global circumstances now beckon of the 99% who need to pay attention.

ALEXANDER KOUZMIN was a professor of Management in the Southern Cross Business School (2010 - 2011); Adjunct Professor of Management in the School of Management at the University of South Australia (2007 - 2010); and Honorary Professor in the College of Social Sciences at the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research (2009 - 2011). He held a Chair in Management in the Graduate College of Management, at Southern Cross University (April 2003 – July 2005). He has been a Visiting Professor in Management at the Cranfield School of Management (March 1998 - August 2000); the University of Tsukuba, Japan (September 2001); a Visiting Professor of Comparative Governance in the Faculty of Social Policy, University of Plymouth (2001 - 2004/2004 -2007); an Adjunct Professor in the School of Accounting and Information Systems, University of South Australia (June 2001 - May 2004); and Adjunct Professor of Management, School of Management, University of South Australia (2004 - 2007). He has also been a Consultant to other international and government agencies in Australia, Europe and South-East Asia. The UN-affiliated Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA), awarded him a Plaque of Recognition, in October 1991, for distinguished service to international management teaching and research. In 1996 and 1998, he received a Citation of Excellence for co-authored journal publications from ANBAR Electronic Intelligence in England. In February 2004, The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) awarded him, and two co-authors, the 2003 Mosher and Mosher Award for the best Public Administration Review paper written in that year. He has published ten books; and has contributed more than 80 chapters to national and international books, presented research papers and keynote addresses at more than 230 international congresses/symposia and has published, to date, some 240 research papers and review articles in leading international-refereed journals.



MATTHEW WITT is an associate professor of public administration at the University of La Verne in California where he teaches courses in public administration theory, integrative ethical leadership, urban environments and managing sustainable communities. He has published in leading academic journals examining how race and racism shape and are shaped by public institutions and practices. He has also published on state crimes against democracy (SCADs), serving as lead editor for the first published SCAD symposium, appearing in American Behavioral Scientist in May, 2010.
