商品簡介
The substantial (100-page) introduction by editor Gin (Southeast Asian studies, Universiti Sains Malaysia) discusses the development of the region's identity, the shape of its history, and trends in scholarship. Study of Southeast Asia is coming into its own as local historians have begun to look outside of national boundaries to the region as a whole and have begun to balance the work of external scholars. This reference marks a new self consciousness in the region itself and a new maturity in the field of Southeast Asian historical studies. The body of the work comprises alphabetically arranged entries pertaining to all aspects of the region's history. Entries are signed and cross-referenced, and include references. The third and final volume of the set devotes almost half its pages to country fact tables, a thematic listing of entries, a detailed chronology, an extensive bibliography, identification of contributors (an international cast of scholars), and a thorough index.
