New Zealand had grappled with issues of constitutional and human rights since the 1980s when, in the late 1990s, jurists invited colleagues from there and abroad to a conference called Liberty, Equality, Community: Constitutional Rights in Conflict. The 17 essays here combine revised versions of the presentations there with additional contributions solicited afterwards.
