This study is an outgrowth of Mynarova's 2004 Ph.D. dissertation analyzing greeting formulae in Peripheral Akkadian. The texts are from a group of tablets discovered by local natives at the end of the 1880s near the modern village of Tell al-Amarna in Middle Egypt, but with no clear explanation for how they got there. She discusses the city and the tablets, the region and the language, the letter format, epistolary Peripheral Akkadian, an analysis of the structure of the Amarna letter, the heading, the sender and the addressee, salutations, and details of the language.
