Translation and the Accommodation of Diversity ─ Indian and Non-Indian Perspectives

Noting that translation is rooted in diversity and that its nature resides in accommodating differences of all sorts, contributors identified only by name present Indian and Western perspectives on both the theory and the practice of translation. Their topics include English translations of Pushkin's Eugene Onegin, translation from Gallo to French in Brittany's hospitals, Assam as a case study of translation and dialectic of continental crossroads, what translating Indian language proverbs contributes to translation theory, an Indian perspective on accommodation in translation, and feminist translation in Nicole Brossard. Jean Peeters is professor of linguistics and translation studies at University of South Brittany, France. He is particularly interested in questions of how foreignness manifests itself in translation, how it relates to social relations and how it is accommodated.
Jandhyala Prabhakara Rao is professor of linguistics at the University of Hyderabad, India. He is the Coordinator of the Centre for Study of Foreign Languages, School of Humanities. He has a keen interest in the relationships between language, society and culture.
