The 33 papers of this proceedings were first presented in September 2005 at the sixth Ruralia conference, held in Dobogoko, Hungary. The papers concern specific archaeological and other studies of medieval arts and crafts and industry practices, with discussion of pottery, charcoal making, fortification, bone carving, Hungarian vernacular stoves, and quarrying. Many of the papers concern larger issues of craftmaking and markets in the region, with specific cases described in Sweden, Norway, Finland, England, Ireland, and Germany, among other locations. Some of the papers are in French and German; most are in English. The volume is not indexed, but it's well illustrated with b&w plates, in an oversized format (8.25x11.75").
