British philosopher (1872-1970) is best remembered for his work in mathematics and his political activism, but Potter (philosophy and leadership in learning, McMaster U.) argues that he was also a pioneer in moral philosophy. He critically analyzes Russell's meta-ethical theory emotivism, which maintains that moral utterances cannot be true or false, just expressions of a wish, desires, or attitude. Michael K. Potter teaches in the Department of Philosophy and the Centre for Leadership in Learning at McMaster University, where the Bertrand Russell Research Centre was founded in the year 2000.
