Records Management and Information Culture ─ Tackling the People Problem

This book describes how to address issues related to people and records management in organizations using the concept of information culture as the basis for developing and promoting recordkeeping practices. The first chapter details the authors' research, the literature on information culture, its relevance to the workplace, and the information culture framework as the structure for the book, then subsequent chapters explore the elements of the framework: fundamental influences that appear difficult to change, such as the value accorded to records, information preferences, and language and national or regional technological infrastructure; the knowledge, skills, and expertise of staff members, from the perspectives of information and digital literacy and legislative and other requirements, as well as developing training programs; and the characteristics unique to specific organizations (which are easier to change), including corporate information technology governance and architecture, employees' and managers' trust in existing organizational systems, working collaboratively with information technology colleagues, and critically reflecting on current records management systems, policies, and processes.
