Organizational Learning in the Global Context

Through examinations of a wide range of divergent organizations from the European Union to Colombian drug cartels, the 13 case studies presented by Brown (U. of Florida), Kenney (Pennsylvania State U.), and Zarkin (Westminster College) engage in some of the major theoretical debates within the political science field of organizational learning. To mention some examples, discussion of the European Union's food policy is used to address questions about orders of learning, the way the Catholic Church has responded to liberation theology is related to theories of dogmatic organizations, stability operations by the US military is explored in terms of compartmentalization and learning, and terrorist groups are discussed for the purpose of shedding light on technology in organizations. M. Leann Brown is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Florida, USA. She teaches International Political Economy, Politics of the European Union, and International Environmental Relations on the graduate and undergraduate levels. Michael Kenney is Assistant Professor of Public Policy in the School of Public Affairs at Pennsylvania State University, Capital College, USA. Immediately before assuming this post, he was a research fellow at the Center for International Studies at the University of Southern California. Michael Zarkin is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Between 2000-2003, he was Assistant Professor of Political Science at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas.
