Straightening Titanium Alloy Parts

This book discusses details about the causes of warpage of titanium alloy airframe parts, gives proven steps that can be taken to prevent warpage, and presents several methods (recipes) for straightening and saving titanium alloy parts that are warped. I am addressing this book to titanium alloy machining fabrication shops, heat treating and thermal processing shops, customers who order titanium alloy parts, and design and quality engineers who specify straightening processes to save distorted parts. They all know from experience that fighting distortion and throwing away warped titanium alloy parts is expensive and kills schedules, thus my motivation to write this book.
The primary objectives of this book are to provide information in the following two areas: 1. Long-term fixes - Analyze the process to find the cause of particular warpage and take steps to prevent it in the future. The rudiments of what causes titanium alloy part distortion and notes on prevention of warpage are covered. You don't have to straighten future parts if you can prevent distortion during processing; 2. Short-term fixes - Repair and save distorted titanium alloy parts. Recipes are given for straightening titanium alloy parts. These recipes describe several proven methods for straightening and give you grounding in when to use which method; part quality and cost ramifications are major considerations. The material presented is practical and in use, as the examples will show.
