Social enterprises are by nature social organizations that require collaboration and cooperation with a wide range of individuals, organizations, governments, networks, and other businesses. They build a more just, sustainable world by applying market-based strategies to today's social problems. This book will highlight the need-to-knows regarding why collaboration is important, how to do it, and the challenges to be encountered.It is about collaboration for social enterprises: why it is hot, why it is not as easy as it looks, and how it can often become counter-productive. The book will help leaders pick and craft collaboration that drives social change, and avoid efforts that, in practice, cement problems, despite the best of intent.

Jon Huggett advises chief executives of social enterprises globally. His clients include the Wikimedia Foundation, the Open Society Institute. He is also a Visiting Fellow at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the SaId Business School at Oxford University. Jon has 25 years of experience leading enterprises and advising leaders in private and social sectors around the world. He is the author of "Moving from Loose Global Associations to Linked Geographic Networks" in "Scaling Social Impact" to be published by Palgrave Macmillan in October 2010 He spent four years as a Partner with The Bridgespan Group in San Francisco and New York. Prior, he spent four years as a Partner with Bain & Company in Johannesburg and Toronto. Earlier in his career, he worked for The Boston Consulting Group in San Francisco and New York. Jon has run three companies: a $75M health care operation on four continents; Bannock Consulting, a London-based firm focused on economic development in emerging countries; and PlanetOut, a lesbian and gay web company. Jon is a member of the National Leadership Council of Social Ventures Australia and serves on many board, including - the Organization for Refuge, Asylum and Migration; One Inspire; and Khulisa UK. He served as a community organizer and the board President of the STOP AIDS Project in San Francisco, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing HIV infection.
