Tiburtina, one of the pagan prophetesses known as Sibyls, predicted the steady decline and apocalyptic end of humans over the course of nine generations. So it was reported anonymously in Greek about 378-390 AD. Latin translations of the prophecy, the earliest known in 1047, became one of medieval Europe's most widely disseminated Latin eschatological prophecies. Holdenried (Medieval history, U. of Bristol) examines most of the surviving manuscripts and some early printed editions, and seeks to understand not just the prophecy itself, but also other sources of information about the Sibyl that were available during the five centuries.
