Long-time western Washington newspaper columnist Chuck Sigars describes his journey from alcoholism to recovery, to health and fitness, and what happened next. Which involved medical crises "cracking out of the ordinary like God was going out of business." Medical crises, financial crises, pick a crisis and quite possibly Chuck Sigars lived through it, sober and, as it turned out, by walking. Along the way, there were happy times, too, including a daughter's marriage and the subsequent birth of a grandson, and finally a callback to a former life, as he was cast in a Seattle feature film, "Winning Dad."And at the end, taking a cue from a helpful doctor, he realized what he had always known, somehow: Seeking out joy is the only thing that really matters. And despite the challenges, the fear, the worry, and a few sleepless nights, along with his constant, daily walking up steep hills of the Pacific Northwest, he found it.
