Richard K. N. Ryu, MD is a cum laude graduate of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut and an Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of UCSF School of Medicine in San Francisco, California. He completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF and a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California.
He is Past President of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and has also served as their Education and Program Chairman. He is currently Chairman of the AANA Education Foundation and the Journal Board of Trustees, providing oversight for theJournal of Arthroscopy and Related Research. He was designated by AANA in 1999 as a Master Shoulder Surgeon at the Orthopedic Learning Center in Chicago
Dr. Ryu is an elected California delegate to the Council of Delegates for the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and serves on the editorial board forOperative Techniques in Sports Medicine and Orthopedics Today. He is also a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has delivered over 200 lectures, nationally and internationally, and has authored over 70 scientific articles and book chapters while serving as the Series Editor for both the first and second 5-volume editions of theAANA Advanced Arthroscopic Surgery textbooks. Dr. Ryu has also been honored as the Wayne O. Southwick Visiting Professor at Yale and as the Verne Inman Lecturer at UCSF.
He resides in Santa Barbara where he has been in private practice since 1986, focusing on athletic knee and shoulder injuries.


Richard L. Angelo, MD is a graduate of the University of Washington Medical School in Seattle, Washington. He completed a surgical internship at the University of California, Irvine and an orthopedic residency at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. A fellowship in shoulder surgery under Dr. Richard Hawkins at the University of Western Ontario and a second in arthroscopy and sports medicine under Dr. James Andrews completed his training.
He is Past President of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and has also served on their Board of Directors and as their Education and Program Chairman. He is currently serving on the AANA Education Foundation Board and the Journal Board of Trustees for the Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Research. He was designated by AANA in 1999 as a Master Shoulder Surgeon at the Orthopedic Learning Center in Chicago.
Dr. Angelo was on the senior advisory board for the 1st and 2nd World Congress on Surgical Training held in Goteborg, Sweden. Formerly, he served as a team physician for the University of Washington Huskies, Clinical Professor for the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Washington, and Chief of Surgery at Evergreen Medical Center in Kirkland, Washington. He was a co-editor of the first and this, the second edition, of the textbook,AANA Advanced Arthroscopic Surgery—Shoulder Volume.


Jeffrey S. Abrams, MD is a cum laude graduate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute located in Troy, New York, and he graduated from medical school from the State University of New York at Syracuse. He completed his surgical internship in Santa Barbara, California and his orthopedic residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed a shoulder fellowship with Dr. Richard J. Hawkins at the University of Western Ontario in London, sports medicine fellowship in Aspen, Colorado, and a sports medicine fellowship with Dr. James Andrews in Columbus, Georgia.
Dr. Abrams is a Clinical Professor at Seton Hall University, School of Graduate Medicine in South Orange, New Jersey and an attending surgeon at the University Medical Center of Princeton in New Jersey. He has served as the president of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and is currently the president of the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He has served on the boards for the Orthopedic Learning Center in Rosemont, Illinois and Princeton Orthopedic Associates, serving as a managing partner.
Dr. Abrams has been awarded the Educator of the Year in New Jersey and was initiated into the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame as the Innovator of the Year for patent designs for arthroscopic suture anchors. He has lectured over 800 times in the United States and internationally, has published more than 60 scientific articles and book chapters, and has edited 2 textbooks,Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Surgery: A Practical Approach to Management and Management of The Unstable Shoulder: Arthroscopic and Open Repairs. He serves on the editorial staff for 5 orthopedic publications and is currently a co-editor of theThe Shoulder: AANA Advanced Arthroscopy Surgical Techniques Volume, as well as a series editor for theSecond Edition.
He serves as a consultant to Princeton University, College of New Jersey, Mercer County Community College, International Management Group, and professional and collegiate athletes. He combines an academic with a community practice in Princeton, New Jersey.
