Labor Markets and Multinational Enterprises in Puerto Rico ― Foreign Direct Investment Influences and Sustainable Growth

This book expresses the reasons to embark on a production management system and begin a journey to a better social and economic life in Puerto Rico. Among the population of Puerto Rico there is a simultaneous presence of a high rate of unemployment and a well-educated workforce. How has this happened? How could the country overcome this economic situation and return to a path of sustainable economic growth in the short and long term? The study here presented introduces an objective and scientific input on these economic issues that are impacting the Puerto Rican society. Achieve greater economic and social welfare in a geographic area is based on increasing individual productivity that workers and employees can unfold in different workplaces, business and industries. The increase in productivity of the economy of Puerto Rico requires both individual effort and enterprise work.

Ahmad H. Juma’h, Ph.D, C.P.A Holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance from the Business School of the University of Manchester, UK. He earned a Masters in Business Administration with concentration in Accounting and Finance, a Bachelor degree in Accounting and another in Science with a concentration in Mathematics from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Certificate of Higher Education in Finance from the Baruch College of the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. Since 1987 he has given lectures in Accounting, Finance and Strategic Management at various universities in Puerto Rico. He has published more than thirty articles in scholarly and professional international journals on outsourcing and accounting and finance among other topics. He currently coordinates the Doctoral Program in Business Administration with major in Finance at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico.

Doris Morales Rodriguez, Ph.D Holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy in Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development in International Business from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. She earned a Master of Labor Relations from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and a Bachelor of Social Sciences with a concentration in Political Science from the University of Puerto Rico. Has conducted research on economic incentives, transfers of operations, transaction costs, financial performance and competitiveness. Delivers lectures in Economics and Business Administration at the University of Puerto Rico, Carolina Campus. She has published several articles in academic and professional journals.

Antonio Llorens-Rivera, Ph.D. Dr. Llorens-Rivera earned his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management with majors in Public Finance and Urban Economics from The Ohio State University (OSU) in the United States of America. Also, he obtained a master’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Economics from University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. He has conducted research on fiscal policies, management, and the labor markets in Puerto Rico. He has taught graduate courses in economics, labor economics, finance, and public finance at Inter American University of Puerto Rico, Metropolitan Campus, since 1996. He has published several articles in academic and professional journals.
