Britain, America and the Special Relationship considers the informal but internationally significant alliance between Britain and the United States that has existed since the first years of the Second World War. First nurtured by Winston Churchill, after 1945 it strengthened in meeting the crises spawned by the Cold War. By examining the course of British and American foreign policy in recent decades, this book will answer a series of important questions for students of modern history. How and why has the ‘Special Relationship’ lasted? How was it perceived by the friends and adversaries of the two English-speaking Powers? How and why did strains within the ‘Relationship’ develop?
作者簡介
B.J.C. McKercher is Professor of History at the University of Victoria, Canada. He is the editor of the journal Diplomacy and Statecraft and is general editor of The Praeger Series on Foreign Policy in the Interwar Period (with K. E. Neilson) and The Praeger Series on Diplomacy and Strategic Thought. His recent publications include The Handbook of Diplomacy and Statecraft (2011, edited), War in the Twentieth Century (2003, edited with M. A. Hennessy) and Power and Stability: British Foreign Policy, 1865-1965 (2003, edited with E. Goldstein).
