Boyarin (Talmudic culture, U. of California-Berkeley) explores the typological relation of rabbinic Judaism to Christianity, and searches for the roots of rabbinic Judaism roots that might run counter to some of the social ideologies and practices of modern orthodox Judaism. The first five of the nine essays presented are "outtakes" writings excluded from two longer works because they diverged from the primary themes and they offer detailed studies of particular issues raised in Intertexuality and the Reading of Midrash and Carnal Israel: Reading Sex in Talmudic Culture (Berkeley, 1993). Following are reprints of four essays published in the journal Diacritics . Indexing is thorough by name and subject as well as by scripture and ancient sources. 作者簡介
Daniel Boyarin, Ph.D. in Talmud, Jewish Theological Seminary of America, is currently Taubman Professor of Talmudic Culture in the Departments of Near Eastern Studies and Rhetoric at the University of California at Berkeley. His most recent publications include, Dying for God: Martyrdom and the Making of Christianity and Judaism (Stanford, 1999) and Border Lines: The Idea of Orthodoxy and the Partition of Christianity and Judaism (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2004).
