Warde offers an academic discourse on food and eating. In the introduction he lays out the arenas of classical scholarly interest in food as well as areas of emerging interest in response to societal preoccupations. Chapters 2-4 develop the interrogative methodology for approaching eating as a practice, demonstrating the need for closer attention to consumption in contrast to production or distribution and articulating theories of practice and conditions for framing eating as a scientific object. Chapters 5-7 then begin to select concepts to frame the analysis. Organization of behavioral practices, habituation to practice, and social performance are explored. The final chapter summarizes the conclusions, draws out implications, and illustrates the analysis with the example of eating out. Distributed by Wiley. 作者簡介
ALAN WARDE is Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester. He has held visiting positions in Adelaide, Mannheim, Sao Paolo, Paris and New York, and is part of the European Sociological Association Research Network on Consumption.
