Stephen J. Pyne is a historian in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University. He is the author of more than twenty-five books, includingThe Ice: A Journey to Antarctica, How the Canyon Became Grand: A Short History, andVoyager: Exploration, Space, and the Third Great Age of Discovery. He is also the author ofBetween Two Fires: A Fire History of Contemporary America, published by the University of Arizona Press.
