Modeling Love Dynamics

The authors demonstrate how love stories can be described using mathematical models, showing the evolution of these stories through ordinary differential equations. They describe the models used and their application to couples where each individual is characterized by a single variable (the interest of the partner), as well as multiple variables. They include discussion of couples composed of secure and unbiased or insecure and unbiased individuals, couples with high appeal who are in love with each other, couples with high appeal who are indifferent when they first meet but develop love, as well as the impact of social and environmental stresses, the existence of an extra emotional dimension like artistic inspiration, the effect of jealousy and conflict, and triangular love stories and menages a trois. They provide case studies of love stories in novels, films, and classical love poetry and prose, such as Gone with the Wind, Beauty and the Beast, Pride and Prejudice, Cyrano de Bergerac, and Jules et Jim.
