Health Promotion Programs introduces the theory of health promotion and presents an overview of current best practices from a wide variety of settings that include schools, health care organizations, workplace, and community settings. It is ideal for undergraduate and graduate students in health promotion and health education courses.
Continuing to offer a comprehensive introduction to health promotion programs by combining the theory and practice with a hands-on guide to program planning, implementation, and evaluation, the updated second edition will focus more on using health theory when planning health promotion programs. This will differentiate the text from the current competition. The authors will provide suggestions, models, boxes, and templates to aid students apply theory. Other important updates include new discussions of the Affordable Care Act (Chapter 1), advancing health equity (Chapter 2), a new chapter 4 will be added on initial program actions and big data, E-health and technology (Chapter 8), and focus on healthcare funding and health promotion (Chapter 9). The four chapters in Part Five will be revised to reflect changes in legislation and financing. Authors will also 1) include new examples of health programs with underserved priority populations at varied sites that are geographically diverse; 2) update all chapter citations to citation from 2010 and forward in as much as possible; 3) review and update key terms and the “For Practice and Discussion” questions.

CARL I. FERTMAN, PHD, CHES, is an Associate Professor in Health and Physical Activity and the Executive Director of the Maximizing Adolescent Potentials (MAPS) Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education.
DIANE D. ALLENSWORTH, PHD, is Professor Emeritus at the Kent State University College of Education.
