Wally is a young boa constrictor who loves hugs. His parents give him hugs to begin and end the day, and he hugs them back just as tightly. However, Wally’s classmates at school don’t seem to love hugs as much as he does and are scared of getting hugs from Wally, since boa constrictors squeeze so hard!
One day at school, Wally shares how good he is at turning himself into shapes: He forms himself into a mountain, a tree, and a house. Everyone claps, but no one hugs him. So Wally forms himself into a tear. His teacher steps in and explains to Wally why the kids are so afraid of getting hugs from him, but Wally promises not to squeeze too hard. So they all decide to let Wally hug them. Wally is so happy he can't help himself: He gets carried away and gives everyone a big . . . KISS!

Barbara Joosse has published over thirty picture books and chapter books for children, including the ever-popular Mama, Do You Love Me?, I Love You the Purplest, and many other books for young readers. She worked for a time in London for the BBC as a games illustrator, and then as a web, print, and motion graphics designer and film editor. But a lifelong passion for children’s books led her to start creating them herself in 2013.
