Chemical Vapour Deposition Cvd ─ Technology and Applications

This book addresses advances in Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and its variants for the processing of nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes, nanocomposite coatings, thin and thick films, and composites. For each topic, the book discusses process, structure, properties, practical use, cost considerations, versatility, and sustainability. It presents a comprehensive overview of advances in CVD and its potential in producing high performance, cost-effective nanomaterials and thin and thick films. Topics include basic principles, CVD of nanomaterials, and CVD of thin and thick films.

Kwang-Leong Choy (DSc, FIMMM, FRSC) is the Director of the UCL Centre for Materials Discovery and Professor of Materials Discovery in the Institute for Materials Discovery at the University College London. She earned her D.Phil. in Materials Science from the University of Oxford, where she was awarded the Hetherington Prize and the Oxford Metallurgical Society Award. She’s also the recipient of the Grunfeld Medal and Prize from the Institute of Materials (UK). She was a Violette and Samuel Glasstone Research Fellow at Oxford where she developed flame-assisted vapour deposition of films (a variant of CVD), before joining Imperial College in 1994 as a Governor's Lecturer, and was later promoted to Reader. She then joined the University of Nottingham in 2002 as Professor of Materials, where her group invented a novel Aerosol-Assisted Ion Deposition (AAID) process for thin and super thin polymeric films and polymer nanocomposite coatings.

Professor Choy’s work has led to her participation in numerous large research programmes. These include EU, EPSRC and government flagship grants, as well as research contracts and collaboration to develop new engineering products with particular characteristics with industrial companies such as Rolls Royce, Aero Engine Control, EADS, Gillette, Oxford Instruments, QinetiQ, DSTL, BG/Advantica and IMPT. She has been the international expert reviewer for Ontario Research Fund, Hong Kong Productivity Council and Greek Ministry of Education/European Commission. She has been awarded Guest Professorships at the University of Uppsala (2001/03), Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (NIMTE, 2010/2012), and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientist (2011/2013). She has authored over two hundred peer-reviewed publications and has given over sixty keynote and invited lectures.
