Frequency-Domain Receiver Design for Doubly Selective Channels

Frequency-Domain Receiver Design for Doubly-Selective Channels discusses broadband wireless transmission techniques, which are serious candidates to be implemented in future broadband wireless and cellular systems, aiming at providing high and reliable data transmission and concomitantly high mobility. This book provides an overview of the channel impairments that may affect performance of single carrier and multi-carrier block transmission techniques in mobile environments. Moreover, it also provides a new insight into the new receiver designs able to cope with double selectivity that affects present and future broadband high speed mobile communication systems.

Paulo Montezuma received the Ph.D. degree from Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia -Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL), Portugal. Currently he is professor at FCT-UNL. He was a researcher at CAPS (Centro de Analise e Processamento de Sinal), Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), from 1996 to 2005. Since 2001 he is researcher at UNINOVA and in 2013 he joined IT (Instituto de Telecomunicacoes). He has been actively involved in several international research projects in the broadband wireless communications area and many national research and industrial projects. He published over 30 journal papers (IET and IEEE journals), 3 book chapters and over 85 conference papers (of which 1 received best paper award), and has 11 patents (attributed or pending). His main research activities are on modulation and transmitter design, coding, nonlinear effects on digital communications and receiver design, with emphasis on frequency-domain implementations, namely for MIMO systems and/or OFDM and SC-FDE modulations.

Rui Dinis received the Ph.D. degree from Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2001 and the Habilitation in Telecommunications from Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia (FCT), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), in 2010. From 2001 to 2008 he was a Professor at IST. Currently he is an associate professor at FCT-UNL. During 2003 he was an invited professor at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He was a researcher at CAPS (Centro de Analise e Processamento de Sinal), IST, from 1992 to 2005 and a researcher at ISR (Instituto de Sistemas e Robotica) from 2005 to 2008. Since 2009 he is a researcher at IT (Instituto de Telecomunicacoes).?

Fabio Silva?has been actively involved in several international research projects in the broadband wireless communications area (RACE project MBS, ACTS project SAMBA and IST projects B-BONE and C-MOBILE) and many national projects, most of them as nuclear researcher and/or in charge of his research center in multi-institutional projects. He has 20 Ph.D. students (current and past), published 4 books, over 100 journal papers and book chapters and over 300 conference papers (of which 4 received best paper awards), and has 10 patents (attributed or pending). He was involved in pioneer projects on the use of mm-waves for broadband wireless communications (international projects MBS and SAMBA) and his main research activities are on modulation and transmitter design, nonlinear effects on digital communications and receiver design (detection, equalization, channel estimation and carrier synchronization), with emphasis on frequency-domain implementations, namely for MIMO systems and/or OFDM and SC-FDE modulations. He is also working on cross-layer design and optimization involving PHY, MAC and LLC issues, as well as indoor positioning techniques.
