The Works of Ibn Wa?i? Al-ya?qubi

Representing some of the earliest secular literature of Islam, al-Ya'qubi seems to have been of notable Iraqi birth and education and to have spent his professional life in the service of provincial governing families of the 'Abbasid empire during the late third/ninth century, though his work also suggests travels and service as a cosmopolitan scholar and imperial diplomat in Armenia, Khurasan, and Egypt. Gordon and colleagues present an English translation of his major works and some fragments. This second of three volumes contains the first section of The History (Ta'rikh), which covers from Adam to pre-Islamic Arabia. The third volume contains the second part of Ta'rikh, from rise of Islam to the reign of al-Mu'tamid. It also contains the indices for all three volumes, which are paged together.
