This book looks at social conflict over wildlife from the perspectives of conflicts between humans and wildlife, conflicts between humans about the issue of wildlife, and human-constructed wildlife policy. Chapters include "Virtual deer: bagging the mythical `big one' in cyberspace," "The restoration of wolves in France: story, conflicts and uses of rumor," "Paradise lost: the transformation of wildlife law in the vanishing wilderness," and "We all can just get along: the social constructions of prairie dog stakeholders and the use of a transactional management approach in devising a species conservation plan." Ann Herda-Rapp, Ph.D. (1998) in Sociology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin – Marathon in Wausau. Her teaching and research have focused on environmental sociology, gender, social problems and social movements. Theresa L. Goedeke, Ph.D. (2003) in a Rural Sociology, University of Missouri-Columbia, is Research Associate with the Environmental Sciences Institute at Florida A&M University. She co-authored a book on anti-environmentalism in the Ozarks and has published articles on wildlife issues.
