Tithes & Tithing - Biblical Perspectives: Relevance To Believers In Christ

Tithes and tithing is a common phrase in the lips of most worshipers and ministers of God in today's assemblies of believers of Christ. Its payment is also a common practice across various denominations of the body of Christ. It was first paid by Abraham to Melchizedek an eternal high priest of God and King of Salem (Genesis 14:1-20). Tithes and tithing became an ordinance under the Mosaic Law and it was practiced by physical Israel during the old covenant. Tithes and tithing as practiced today is not a prototype of the practice under the Mosaic Law. Its modes of operation varies from one Christian denomination to the other according to the understanding of the minister overseeing the denomination. To some denominations, payment of tithes is not only a way to ward off the 'devourer' but also a way of stepping into the narrow road.This book chronicled the laws with which God administered his children from Eden to the present time. It brought out the consciousness that although God is the same yesterday, today and forever, (Hebrews 13:8), He governed his people with a system of rules which were never static but evolved from one form to the other according to his righteousness. These laws were discussed pointing out their relevance to the group or persons and era of humanity they were administered to.
