The Shoebox

From the shoebox they shared from The Feed And Seed Store to a beautiful garden home they called A Most Wondrous Place, Gracie and Bessie will always be inseparable best friends.

Whether it was triumphing in The Worm Olympics Game or convincing all of the others that chickens could do more kinds of dancing than chickens had always done, Gracie and Bessie were inseparable. When Bessie became the leader of their little flock, Gracie thought life could never be any better for them. Bessie would make sure they were safe, and Gracie would devote her time to dancing and learning all she could from The Living Library.

But when Bessie protected everyone from The Tuxedo Cat, her heart was changed, and she could no longer be the leader. Gracie puts aside her own dreams of dancing ballet and becomes the new leader of their flock. Almost right away, Gracie must use all that she has learned with her mind and with her heart to face The Biggest Scary Thing.

The Sewer Rat had been tormenting the chickens for days and days. He had even become The Biggest Scary Thing for Gracie. But when Bessie can no longer be the leader of their small flock, Gracie has to put aside her own hopes and dreams to be the new leader.

Even though she had faced The Big Scary Thing and The Bigger Scary Thing, Gracie was not sure what she can do about The Biggest Scary Thing. But Gracie has to do something, and so she devises The Best Plan Ever that includes an ingenious invention called The Sewer Rat Eradicator. It would prove that chickens are brave, and it would get rid of The Sewer Rat once and for all.

When her Best Plan Ever fails and her Best Backup Plan Ever fails, Gracie could only trust there was an even bigger plan in place, a plan that would heal her best friend's heart.
