The Trust Revolution ― How the Digitization of Trust Will Revolutionize Business and Government
作者:M.Todd Henderson  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  出版日:2019/07/31 裝訂:精裝
While conventional wisdom dictates that people's trust – in the government, in corporations, in each other - is at a historic low, the rise of the Internet is offering new ways to rehabilitate and strengthen trust. Uber is probably the best example of a new company that, on the surface, allows individuals with smartphones to get rides with strangers, but at a deeper level is in the business of trust. In The Trust Revolution, M. Todd Henderson and Salen Churi trace the history of innovation and trust, linking companies such as Uber with medieval guilds, early corporations, self-regulatory organizations, and New-Deal era administrative agencies. This book should be read by anyone who wants to understand how trust - and its means of creation - has the potential not only to expand opportunities for human cooperation, but also to reduce the size and scope of government and corporate control over our lives.

Markets and Measurements in Nineteenth-century Britain
作者:Aashish Velkar  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  出版日:2012/06/30 裝訂:精裝
Measurements are a central institutional component of markets and economic exchange. By the nineteenth century, the measurement system in Britain was desperately in need of revision: a multiplicity of measurement standards, proliferation of local or regional weights and measures, and a confusing array of measurement practices made everyday measurements unreliable. Aashish Velkar uncovers how metrology and economic logic alone failed to make 'measurements' reliable, and discusses the importance of localised practices in shaping trust in them. Markets and Measurements in Nineteenth-Century Britain steers away from the traditional explanations of measurement reliability based on the standardisation and centralisation of metrology; the focus is on changing measurement practices in local economic contexts. Detailed case studies from the industrial revolution suggest that such practices were path-dependent and 'anthropocentric'. Therefore, whilst standardised metrology may have improved prec

The Turnpike Road System in England:1663–1840
90折
作者:William Albert  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  出版日:2007/02/15 裝訂:平裝
This book deals with the development and administration of turnpike trusts in England from the creation of the first turnpike authority in 1663 to the coming of the the railways in 1840. It is concerned specifically with assessing the economic importance of the trusts before and during the Industrial Revolution. The author begins by analysing the importance of the roads in relation to the entire transport network in the seventeenth century and then examines the legislative development of the trust device and spread of the turnpike trusts throughout the country. The financing of the trusts and the way in which they were managed are considered and the relative success of the turnpikes are assessed by looking at the movement in the costs of land transport. The study is based on parliamentary records and on original trust documents, studied on a country-wide basis. By examining this material Dr Albert is able to provide a detailed and comprehensive history of English turnpike trusts which
