Duplex Stainless Steels (DSSs) are chromium-nickel-molybdenum-iron alloys that are usually in proportions optimized for equalizing the volume fractions of austenite and ferrite. Due to their ferritic-
In this book, the authors treat macroeconomic models as composed of large numbers of micro-units or agents of several types and explicitly discuss stochastic dynamic and combinatorial aspects of interactions among them. In mainstream macroeconomics sound microfoundations for macroeconomics have meant incorporating sophisticated intertemporal optimization by representative agents into models. Optimal growth theory, once meant to be normative, is now taught as a descriptive theory in mainstream macroeconomic courses. In neoclassical equilibria flexible prices led the economy to the state of full employment and marginal productivities are all equated. Professors Aoki and Yoshikawa contrariwise show that such equilibria are not possible in economies with a large number of agents of heterogeneous types. They employ a set of statistical dynamical tools via continuous-time Markov chains and statistical distributions of fractions of agents by types available in the new literature of combinator

This playful picture book demonstrates the concept of fractions in a story featuring the Arithmechicks, 10 math-loving chicks.Join the Arithmechicks and Mouse as they head off to the fair! These chicks can’t wait to enjoy the roller coaster, bumper cars, games, and delicious snacks; meanwhile Mouse is determined to sink the rooster at the dunk tank. As the Arithmechicks explore the fair, they find ways to show how fractions work in the world. But when one chick doesn’t get to select an activity, the day doesn’t go according to plan until the chicks decide they all need to play fair. This book includes a helpful glossary with further information about fractions, while the story provides an exuberant introduction to essential math for young children and their caregivers.
The scope and treatment of Dr Maxwell's two-volume course covering the transition from school to university is directed towards training students in algebraic thinking, so that processes do not become too mechanical. The explanations are full, the difficulties of the beginner are foreseen and overcome. Indeed, the course should prove excellent for the lone student as well as for the supervised class. Topics in part one include polynomial theory, equations, inequalities, partial fractions, permutations and combinations, the binomial theorem and series and determinants. The 'feel' of the book may be illustrated by reference to the treatment of partial fractions, which is novel in several ways. A theoretical exposition is given in some detail and varies from standard treatments in leading to a method of calculation that arises directly from it. The book contains many 'drill' examples, which the author considers essential.

The second edition of this acclaimed, accessible textbook brings the subject of sedimentation and erosion up-to-date, providing an excellent primer on both fundamental concepts of sediment-transport theory and methods for practical applications. The structure of the first edition is essentially unchanged, but all the chapters have been updated, with several chapters reworked and expanded significantly. Examples of the new additions include the concept of added mass, the Modified Einstein Procedure, sediment transport by size fractions, sediment transport of sediment mixtures, and new solutions to the Einstein Integrals. Many new examples and exercises have been added. Erosion and Sedimentation is an essential textbook on the topic for students in civil and environmental engineering and the geosciences, and also as a handbook for researchers and professionals in engineering, the geosciences and the water sciences.
Continued fractions, studied since Ancient Greece, only became a powerful tool in the eighteenth century, in the hands of the great mathematician Euler. This book tells how Euler introduced the idea of orthogonal polynomials and combined the two subjects, and how Brouncker's formula of 1655 can be derived from Euler's efforts in Special Functions and Orthogonal Polynomials. The most interesting applications of this work are discussed, including the great Markoff's Theorem on the Lagrange spectrum, Abel's Theorem on integration in finite terms, Chebyshev's Theory of Orthogonal Polynomials, and very recent advances in Orthogonal Polynomials on the unit circle. As continued fractions become more important again, in part due to their use in finding algorithms in approximation theory, this timely book revives the approach of Wallis, Brouncker and Euler and illustrates the continuing significance of their influence. A translation of Euler's famous paper 'Continued Fractions, Observation' is
