Second-Class Daughters:Black Brazilian Women and Informal Adoption as Modern Slavery
作者:Elizabeth Hordge-Freeman  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  出版日:2022/03/31 裝訂:精裝
A legacy of the transatlantic slave trade, Brazil is home to the largest number of African descendants outside Africa and the greatest number of domestic workers in the world. Drawing on ten years of interviews and ethnographic research, the author examines the lives of marginalized informal domestic workers who are called 'adopted daughters' but who live in slave-like conditions in the homes of their adoptive families. She traces a nuanced and, at times, disturbing account of how adopted daughters, who are trapped in a system of racial, gender, and class oppression, live with the coexistence of extreme forms of exploitation and seemingly loving familial interactions and affective relationships. 作者:Aaron Ben-Ze'ev  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  出版日:2012/07/26 裝訂:平裝
Computers have changed not just the way we work but the way we love. Falling in and out of love, flirting, cheating, even having sex online have all become part of the modern way of living and loving. Yet we know very little about these new types of relationship. How is an online affair where the two people involved may never see or meet each other different from an affair in the real world? Is online sex still cheating on your partner? Why do people tell complete strangers their most intimate secrets? What are the rules of engagement? Will online affairs change the monogamous nature of romantic relationships? These are just some of the questions Professor Aaron Ben Ze'ev, distinguished writer and academic, addresses in this book, a full-length study of love online. Accessible, shocking, entertaining, enlightening, this book will change the way you look at cyberspace and love forever.

Weird to Exist: Simple Comics about Complex Feelings
滿額折
作者:Alison Zai  出版社:Ten Speed Pr  出版日:2022/04/26 裝訂:精裝
Vibrant yet darkly humorous comics for commiserating over life's deepest concerns, from artist Alison Zai We all know the gut-wrenching pang from accepting that a beautiful moment will soon become a distant memory. We all get into cycles when it feels like the failures and disappointments just keep coming. Weird to Exist is a collection of 100 comics that depict these universal emotions and existential musings with great accuracy and empathy. This bright, colorful book is divided into three intrinsic human acts--loving, creating, and existing--and, ultimately, comments on how weird it is to do all of that. Zai's cheery anthropomorphic characters go through the motions of relationships, loneliness, creativity blocks, mental health concerns, social anxiety, and more. These comics voice the overwhelming dread and unpredictable chaos found in all aspects of being alive. With sharp levity and emotional complexity, Weird to Exist captures the feelings that are not easily communicated but wid

The New Psychology of Love
作者:Robert J. Sternberg  出版社:Cambridge Univ Pr  出版日:2018/12/31 裝訂:精裝
This is a much-needed development from the first edition that provides an update on the theory and research on love by world-renowned scientific experts. It explores love from a diverse range of standpoints: social-psychological, evolutionary, neuropsychological, clinical, cultural, and even political. It considers questions such as: how men and women differ in their love, what makes us susceptible to jealousy and envy in relationships, how love differs across various cultures? As the neuropsychological basis of love is examined, this study showcases what attracts people to one another, why love has developed the way it has over time, and what evolutionary purpose it serves. It also analyses why and when love relationships both succeed and fail, which means readers will be rewarded with a better understanding of their own relationships and those of others, as well as what can be done to build a lasting, loving relationship.
