Jarman (1942-1994) was a prominent UK filmmaker and AIDS/queer rights activist. This reprint of his 1987 account includes diary entries, poems, and interviews relating to the 1986 filming in 1986 The Last of England, lamenting the loss of certain British values and named after a painting by the Pre-Raphaelite artist Ford Madox Brown. The book includes remarks on his other works, upbringing, recent HIV-positive diagnosis, and stills from the movie and photos of Jarman, friends, and family. One of England's foremost filmmakers, Derek Jarman (1942-1994) wrote and directed many feature films, including Sebastiane, Jubilee, Caravaggio, and Blue, as well as numerous short films and music videos. He was a stage designer, artist, writer, gardener, and an outspoken AIDS and queer rights activist in the UK and the United States. His books include At Your Own Risk, Modern Nature, and Smiling in Slow Motion, all available from the University of Minnesota Press.
