Originally written in the construction boom brought on by the Church Building Act of 1818, the work details not only traditional Anglican design still visible today but also provides a look inside the business of architecture in the early nineteenth century. Christopher Webster is an architectural historian who has published widely on the late Georgian and early Victorian periods. He has particular interests in the development of the architectural profession and the publication of architectural books at this time, the post-Waterloo Gothic Revival and the early work of the Cambridge Camden Society. He was born in Leeds and after an academic career in the Midlands, is very happy to be back in his native city. Now retired, he devotes much of his time to research, writing, music and book collecting.
