Medicine Between Science and Religion: Explorations On Tibetan Grounds

Anthropologists and scholars of Tibetan and Western medicine explore the impact of Western science and biomedicine among Tibetans across China, the Himalayas, and exile communities and in relation to globalizing Tibetan medicine. More specifically, they look at how local practices change, how science is undertaken and scientific knowledge is produced in such context, and how this continually hybridized medical knowledge is transmitted and put into practice. Among the topics are Tibetan medicine and Russian modernities, revisioning biomedicine as Tibetan practice, the extension of obstetrics in Ladakh, and the Four Tantras and the global market.
