Future of the Nuclear Security Environments in 2015: Proceedings of a Russian - U.S. Workshop

This work collects papers from the joint National Academies-Russian Academy of Sciences public workshop held in Austria in November 2007. The papers highlight Russian and US cooperation on protection, control, and accounting of nuclear weapons, placing discussion in the larger context of international developments in nuclear security. Presenters from the US and Russia include employees of national labs in the two countries, former government officials, UN representatives, independent consultants, academics, and those currently serving in private industries and NGOs. Contributors address questions on challenges to nuclear security, sustaining non-proliferation advances, assisting non-proliferation goals in other regions, and using new approaches such as public-private partnerships. Some topics examined include sharing management and financial responsibilities, legal aspects of negotiation, nuclear terrorism threats and responses, and collaboration in the area of nuclear forensics.
