Teaching of English Language Learners through Technology

Erben (education/ESOL, U. of Tampa), Ban (TESOL, Barry U.), and Castaneda (foreign language education, Miami U.) present a text for pre-and in-service middle and high school content-area teachers who have English language learners (ELLs) in their classrooms, serving also as a resource for ESL aides and support staff, content-area teacher educators, district curriculum supervisors, and administrators. The text features practical, teacher-friendly strategies and techniques for using various technologies and softwares readily available to the public which can enhance the learning potential of all students, including ELLs. Following an overview of theory and research on ESL teaching and learning, and discussion of research on specific educational approaches and the use of technology in educational settings, the text contains a series of practical chapters describing learning activities for classroom use, modified for all levels of ELLs.
