Conceived following a course in the subject jointly taught by the editors at the U. of Cologne, Germany, which featured guest lectures from industry executives, this volume contains 26 chapters written by those in the airline industry (many are with Lufthansa Consulting) and in economics who comment on issues of airline practice and management for both passenger and freight operations. Among the topics are the European Commission's competition policy, low cost carriers, alliances and mergers, current trends in the industry of airports, and linking airports with other modes of transportation. Stefan Auerbach is Managing Director of Lufthansa Consulting GmbH, Germany. Sascha Albers just finished his doctorate degree at the Department of Business Planning and Logistics, University of Cologne, Germany, and is currently visiting lecturer at the Department of Strategic Management at the University of Waikato Management School, New Zealand.
