Foreign Aid and Foreign Policy: Lessons for the Next Half-Century

Part of a series sponsored by the National Academy of Public Administration, this volume brings together 20 papers examining US foreign assistance programs and US foreign policy as related to, broadly speaking, nation building, governance, and democratization. Editors Picard (Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, U. of Pittsburgh), Groelsema (a senior associate at ARD, Inc., a company that offers research services in a variety of governance areas), and Buss (director of international studies, National Academy of Public Administration) have organized the material into four sections concerning foreign aid and foreign policy debates, case studies in foreign aid, organizational dynamics and foreign aid policy, and international assistance and development. The papers include discussion of local governance in Iraq, foreign aid to Pakistan, lessons learned about higher education and capacity building, the Millennium Challenge Account, the role for foreign aid in diasporas and development, and remittances and foreign aid in the developing world, among other topics.
