Silverblatt, Jane Ferry, and Barbara Finan (all communications, Webster U., St. Louis, Missouri) introduce students to a number of strategies for making media content accessible and understandable, and discuss factors for choosing which one or ones to use in a particular context. What is more, they say, once students know that there are a lot of alternatives, they can look for approaches that they were never taught, and maybe no one has even thought of before. They cover ideological, autobiographical, nonverbal communication, and mythic analysis; and the analysis of production elements.
