Ridley Scott ─ A Critical Filmography

Ridley Scott directed films including Thelma and Louise, Alien, and Robin Hood. During his career, he has been able to exercise greater control over the content of his films than almost any other director. He is considered a master of the entire filmmaking process, including organizing and planning. This work offers chronological chapters on each of Scott's 22 films, illustrated with b&w film stills. Each chapter begins with notes on the actors and a synopsis, then explores the film's critical reception, speculates on each film's place in its genre, and offers comparisons to other films in film history. Chapters conclude with notes on budget, profits, and awards. An introduction to the book reviews the history of the film industry and the director's role, and surveys Scott's career and major themes of his work. The book includes a filmography of brief entries on each film, with notes on producers, screenplay, cast, rating, and running time. The bibliography is organized by each film.
