This is the 45th volume of The Canadian Yearbook of International Law, issued annually under the auspices of the Canadian Society of International Law and the Canadian Council of International Law. The volume contains six articles on such topics as the implications of the Supreme Court of Canada case R. v. Hape and its implications for Canadian reception law; the international responsibilities of the state concerning private military enterprises; the Special Court for Sierra Leone and its approach to child soldiers and forced marriages; the incorporation of international custom into Canadian common law; and state immunity, state atrocities, and civil justice in international law. The articles are followed by notes and commentaries on Canadian Prime Minister Chretien's interpretation of the UN Charter principles on the use of force in the context of the US-led invasion of Iraq, the determination of criteria for the accession of Turkey to join the European Union, and the work of the late Canadian legal scholar John Peter Humphrey in promoting international human rights.
