Arnold, a prolific author of historical dictionaries, offers an overview of the wars that have rocked African countries since the end of World War II. The key players, events, politics, and other issues are listed in alphabetical order in this wide-ranging second edition reference. Some entries, such as Algeria's fight for independence from French rule, the Rwandan genocide of 1994, and the current ethnic cleansing in Darfur are familiar--and many entries are less widely known. The book includes a list of acronyms and abbreviations, a bibliography, and a chronology from 1945 to 2006. Also, entries are cross-referenced. This is a paper-bound reprint of a 2008 book.
