Nursing Leadership: A Concise Encyclopedia is an important reference for all leaders, both current and future, in health care. Its 300 entries, written by nursing luminaries, not only enhance our understanding of leadership - what it is and how it functions - but will help to promote effective leadership among nurses.
The encyclopedia is organized around nine themes, with five themes embracing the most salient management and leadership theories, including characteristics and skills required of leaders in today's complex health care system: characteristics of leaders; management and executive skills; theories and models of management and leadership; major leaders in nursing; professional standards; health care delivery standards and health policy; leadership in practice, education, and research; quality outcomes; and informatics and technology.
The entries in each theme are varied and based on the assumption that nurse clinicians, academics, and researchers share many of the same challenges but also must adapt their leadership styles and visions to the unique challenges demanded by different roles and institutional missions. Included as well are rich materials on organizations and historical figures that have shaped the leadership role.
