Ricardo Legorreta is without question Mexico's most famous living architect. Fumihiko Maki, one of Japan's most renowned architects, is known for his Austrian Embassy in Tokyo and his National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto.

José Villagrán was the leader of the modern movement in Mexico and head of the School of Architecture in the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México. Ricardo Legorreta worked with him for more than ten years before establishing his own practice in 1964.
