The Pura Belpre Award is given biennially to Latino authors and illustrators of children's books, in honor of children's librarian Belpre (1899-1982). This volume covers the first ten years of the award, its origins, and author and illustrator award winners and others honored since 1996. It also contains a biography of Belpre. The list consists of book summaries, quotes, color illustrations, biographical sketches, and connected book talks and activities. Trevino is a consultant and youth services coordinator for the Houston, Texas Public Library. A DVD contains interviews with the founders and winners of the award and photos of Belpre's life and career. The volume includes an annotated list of web resources.
