Keith Lovegrove surveys the history, culture and design of railroads and trains from the early days of the Industrial Revolution through the 20th century golden age of the Zephyr and the Broadway Limited to rail travel's postwar decline and subsequent rebirth. Railroad explores the design challenges that faced railroads throughout the world. The work of various engineers, architects and interior designers is showcased and demonstrates how they rose to the challenge of creating a visual vocabulary for railroading.
Also included is the roster of celebrated trains - the majestic transcontinental routes that criscrossed the US, the storied Orient Express, the present-day technological wonders of Japan's bullet trains. Keith Lovegrove examines all the details of railroading from an aesthetic as well as an engineering point of view.

作者簡介

Keith Lovegrove is a designer and has written the highly successful Airline: Identity, Design and Culture. He founded Lovegrove Design Consultancy in London in 1985 and has worked on a wide range of projects from corporate literature to environmental graphics. He has been awarded the PPA Magazine Designer of the Year Award for Photography magazine.
