Romans 4 and the New Perspective on Paul: Faith Embraces the Promise

Visscher (New Testament studies, Theological College of the Canadian Reformed Churches, Hamilton) tests whether Paul's argument in the passage is more convincingly interpreted by traditional scholars or by those who, after 1977, suggest that Paul was misread by many during and after the Reformation in order to show the apostle condemning contemporaries that they opposed. Pitting five champions of each side against each other, he decides that the New Perspective, while it presents some helpful insights, fails to do justice to Paul's words in the chapter.
