Connecting With Reluctant Teen Readers: Tips, Titles, And Tools

Jones is an author and youth services consultant for public and school libraries; now an editor and writer, Taylor was a high school teacher for 20 years; Hartman is with the Minneapolis Public Library. The three combine forces in creating a compilation of information from authors, publishers, editors, librarians, and teachers on what works, what doesn't, and why reluctant teenagers should be encouraged to read. Following a detailed discussion of possible solutions to some of the most challenging issues, the text contains lists of some 600 books, magazines, and series that work, including 57 "turnaround" titles to turn nonreaders into readers, fiction and nonfiction works, graphic novels and comics, and recommendations from a variety of sources.
