商品簡介
In a book that grew out of teach-ins participated in by editors Gardner (history, Rutgers U.) and Young (history, New York U.) in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, American historians explore issues arising from earlier practices American empire and hegemony and apply the lessons to the possible outcomes of the US occupation of the Arab country. Eleven essays examine the rhetoric of empire; discuss relations between Europe and the United States in the context of differences over Iraq; consider Reagan's secret wars in Central America, US colonization of the Philippines, and the post-WWII occupation of Japan as analogies for the Iraq war; and assess the impact of the Bush war on international liberal institutions.
